Perseverance
A long look at the old pictures.
Then clean up the palette a bit, get more brushes wet, and the old tones creep back into the picture.
The one thing you forget, when you haven’t painted for a while, is that not much happens first time round. The first layer of paint always looks bland and flat, it takes more layers, more paint, more looking, to get the richness and depth.
The key: don’t stop, don’t give up. If it is isn’t working, keep going, make it work. On and on and on and on, again and again and again.
